Starbucks Will Start Offering Almond Milk In U.S. Stores Next Month
There will be another dairy-free alternative for Starbucks customers come September: alongside soy and coconut milk, the chain will be offering almond milk as part of its milk lineup.
The company says that beginning Sept. 6, almond milk will be available in more than 4,600 Starbucks stores around the country, the company said in a press release, in which it called the stuff “almondmilk.” It’ll first be available in company-operated and licensed stores in the Pacific Northwest, Northern California, New York, Northeast, and Mid-Atlantic regions, before rolling out to the rest of the country by the end of the month.
“We created our own almondmilk recipe to complement our hot, iced and Frappuccino blended beverages,” said Yoke Wong, manager on Starbucks beverage R&D team. “It was designed so that when steamed, it creates a rich foam for hot beverages and is delicious and creamy when served in cold beverages.”
The company says it decided to offer the dairy-free alternative after hearing from customers via its My Starbucks Idea platform. That, and the fact that 58% of adult Americans drink non-dairy milk, with almond milk as the most popular option for them with 60% of the non-dairy market, according to Mintel Data’s numbers on grocery shopping habits.
Starbucks offered soy milk starting in 2004, followed by coconut milk in February 2015. The chain introduced its first coconut-milk based beverage last month with the Iced Coconut Milk Mocha Macchiato.
