Starbucks Introducing Its First Beverage With A Coconut Milk Base
If you’re the kind of person who’d rather get your milk from a plant than an animal, Starbucks has some news for you: the chain will be selling its first-ever espresso beverage with a coconut milk base for a limited time this summer.
The Iced Coconut Milk Mocha Macchiato — espresso, white chocolate mocha sauces, Single Origin Sumatran Coconut Milk, and ice, topped caramel and mocha drizzle — will be available in the U.S. and Canada starting July 12, Starbucks announced, for a limited time.
“Using coconut milk instead of coconut syrup provides a hint of summer — summer breeze,” Starbucks’ coffee education specialist Mackenzie Karr told Business Insider. “It’s really subtle, and nice and surprising.”
Starbucks has already seen success with coconut milk, which the chain added as a vegan alternative to dairy and soy milks in 2015.
This new drink, however, isn’t entirely dairy-free, as the white chocolate and mocha sauce include milk ingredients.
