Apparently, Someone Wants A Sterling Silver Starbucks Card Keychain
Are you a Starbucks super-fan, or is someone you know? If so, consider this year’s Starbucks super-fan gift, which goes on sale next Wednesday. Depending on how you look at it, it’s either a Starbucks gift card with a 400% markup, or a $150 silver keychain that also requires a $50 Starbucks gift card purchase.
What you get for your $200 when you purchase this item, in a handy red gift box and a lovely pouch, is a Starbucks gift card keychain made from “jewelry-quality 925 sterling silver.” It comes with $50 in Starbucks gift credits that the avid Starbucks fan in your life will probably just transfer to the app on their smartphone or to the Gold card that they already have.
Sure, you might laugh, but remember last year’s rose gold Starbucks cards? Maybe you don’t, but they were metal cards that cost $450, with $400 in gift card credit included. Those sold for $450, and included built-in Gold status in the Starbucks Rewards program. There’s one listed on eBay right now, with an actual bid, for more than twice that. Sure, if the card is unregistered as claimed, it comes with $400 in store credit, but that’s still paying $725 (as of this writing) for the metal card itself. Which isn’t even made of real precious metal.
What we’re saying is that these have collectible value. Like all collectibles, though, don’t buy it unless you enjoy the item itself.
