Yahoo! Pitting 30 New Logos Against Each Other In Continuing Battle For Brand Relevance
Gather round, ye hipsters and ye tech-savvy young things! Yahoo! wants you to know that it’s cool and awesome and so much fun and to do that, it’s going to debut a new logo. But not like old, boring companies have done in the past. Nope! It’s going to take 30 days to do so, in the hopes that showing 30 different possible logos will prove exciting to consumers instead of just an endless train of logos.
The first logo is just one of many in the 30 Days of Change, which means it’s got a 1 in 30 chance of being crowned Miss Yahoo! when this whole thing is said and done. There she is, No. 1 and she’s… underwhelming? A logo? Purple? Shrug.
But Kathy Savitt, Chief Marketing Officer, seems chipper about the upcoming monthlong logo parade. It’s all part of the plan to keep changing, she writes:
The new logo will be a modern redesign that’s more reflective of our reimagined design and new experiences. To get everyone warmed up, we are kicking off 30 days of change. Beginning now, we will display a variation of the logo on our homepage and throughout our network in the U.S. for the next month. It’s our way of having some fun while honoring the legacy of our present logo.
Things to note: The exclamation point isn’t going anywhere, and neither is the yodel. Which is a relief because the only joy I get in life is an occasional yodel. That’s not true — I yodel constantly and am therefore always happy.
Because there’s no way anyone wants to read about logos daily, perhaps we’ll just wait to check back in when the winner is finally crowned. See ya in September, Yahoo!.
