Meet Your New Freelance Assistant Editor, Laura Northrup!

Meet Your New Freelance Assistant Editor, Laura Northrup!

We have a new tipline czarina, Laura Northrup. She’ll be digging through your emails to tips@consumerist.com, thanking you for sending in tips, and pushing good stories to the editors. In due course, she’ll start contributing posts, too. We snagged Laura from the Albany Times Union, where she assisted consumer reporter Dan Higgins with his columns and posted on their consumer advocacy blog, The Advocate. A reformed professional librarian, she also owns several hamsters and has been known to engage in cheeky cross-stitching. Please join me in giving her a big Consumerist welcome!

Reply Button Issue Being Worked On

A number of users have reported that they’re having issues with the reply button not working or appearing in the comments. It popped up last week, then went away, and now it’s back again. Our tech team is on it and consider a high-priority. Hopefully it will be fixed soon. Sidenote: While we’re still on the Gawker platform, you can directly submit bugs and errors to tech at getsatisfaction.com/gawker.

Today Is The Last Day To Vote In The 2009 Bloggies!

Tax Cat here, reminding you that today is the last day to vote in the 2009 bloggies. Consumerist has been nominated for Best Topical Weblog, where we’re up against other cats who know nothing of the tax code, and Best Writing of a Weblog. In fact, we’ve even heard that voting is the single best way to prevent an audit. Go vote now! (or get your files in order…) [2009 Bloggies]

Consumerist To LiveBlog SuperBowl Ads

Consumerist To LiveBlog SuperBowl Ads

I’ll be liveblogging the SuperBowl ads on The Consumerist this year, playing a virtual couch buddy for those whose who don’t have any friends or whose friends don’t make interesting enough commentary. It’ll be interesting to see what is traditionally the biggest blowout night for the most outrageous and expensive ads looks like during the Recession. Tune in to the game and Consumerist.com on Feb 1 for all the hot liveblog action, and pass the nachos.

Nominate Consumerist For 2009 Bloggies

Nominate Consumerist For 2009 Bloggies

Nominations are open for the 2009 Bloggies. Gosh darnit, I think Consumerist deserves consideration for some of these categories. Despite severe staff cutbacks in the 4th quarter, we kicked some serious ass. And now, thanks to Consumers Union buying us, we’re back and better than ever. If you agree, put our name in over here.
