Listen, the Transportation Safety Administration gets it: people like Batman, and some of those people own “batarangs,” boomerang weapons shaped like bats. But please, for the love of speedy airport security lines, the TSA is asking travelers to stop trying to pack the sharp, pointy things in their carry-on bags.

A few days ago, the TSA issued yet another reminder via Instagram that travelers are not the caped crusader, and as such, they should check those batarangs in their bags.

The agency has seized and confiscated batarangs at several airports, including most recently, San Francisco.

But it’s been a problem for a while: six months ago, agents in Salt Lake City had to advise passengers that the bat weapons should be “placed in your checked baggage along with your grapple gun, bat-saw, collapsible bat-sword, and other utility belt items” after finding a set in a carry-on bag.

A year ago, agents at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport nabbed even more batarangs.

It seems to happen a lot more when there are events tied to superheroes going on: in July, TSA wrote on its travel tips blog that officers have issues with things like batarangs around Comic-Con.

“These come in the form of figurines, costume items (including replica and real weapons) and other mementos that generally alarm our checkpoint and checked baggage screening systems and result in a bag check,” TSA wrote.

DC Films happens to have a bat-related movie out there right now, Suicide Squad, which could account for TSA’s latest round of reminders. In any case, TSA rules prohibit any throwing weapons in carry-on bags, so hit the bag check before you try to get to your gate.
