Enough Already: Thieves Take Off With 50-Year-Old Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer Statue

While it’s understandable that where there is good will and cheer toward man, there’s also going to be those grumpy, awful, bah-humbugging Grinches out there who want to ruin anything nice about the holiday season. Already today we’ve heard of Christmas tree thieves, and now comes the news that not even 50-year-old Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer statues are safe, despite the giving nature of the season.

Thieves made off with a statue that’s been a familiar face for 50 years to residents of a Los Angeles neighborhood, reports CBS Los Angeles.

The 200-pound statue was believed to have been taken sometime Friday night from its spot atop a roof, with only a broken antler left behind to mark the crime.

The president of the neighborhood’s Homeowner’s Association and her husband have been taking care of the wooden animal for years.

“He’s been up there for literally 50 years and he’s one-of-a-kind. He’s handmade. Hand-painted. And the thought that someone would take him, it’s just heartbreaking,” she said.

Residents have distributed missing posters to try and find Rudolph, and the police have taken a report about the theft. Now it’s time to wait for a Christmas reunion.

“It is the lowest of low. I mean, especially at Christmas time. I literally cannot imagine someone taking Rudolph,” the HOA president’s husband added.

It’s bad enough he couldn’t play any reindeer games and got made fun of for years, and now THIS? Sigh.
