Taco Bell made a big fancy announcement today that the next flavor of the Doritos Locos taco is coming in only three weeks. What is that flavor? They won’t say! It’s a mystery! Except for how they already told everyone months ago.

We’ve been at the forefront of Doritos Loco news coverage since the very first tests back in 2011.
What could it be? Taco Bell says that they’ll start dropping hints throughout the month of August, but “[T]his #_DLT, contrary to speculation, may not what be what you’re expecting.” Yes, there’s an extra “what” in there. It just adds to the mystery.

Nice try, Taco Bell. You already told Fast Company that the next flavor would be Flamas three months ago. Or is that the very thing that we were expecting? Is this a double Dorito fake-out?

Personally, I’m hoping for Doritos Locos Taco Doritos flavor Doritos Loco Tacos.

By the way, even though we are kind of obsessed with this product, the Consumerist staff isn’t all that big on actually eating it. Between the four of us, only one of us has dared to try the salty treat. We will not tell you which one.
