If A Bear Is Going To Break Into A Candy Shop, He Can At Least Be A Very Careful Marauder
Unlike other animals with bad reputations when it comes to visiting stores with say, delicate products, we’re seeing quite an uptick in generally well-mannered bears dropping by retail establishments without doing any damage. A bear in Colorado had a bit of a sweet tooth recently and broke into a candy store to satisfy it while managing to be very tidy about his looting.
The black bear stopped by the candy store in Estes Park a few times early one morning, going in through the front door and being careful not to disrupt anything. Well, besides some treats he pilfered to take on the go, including English toffee and chocolate-chip cookies dipped in caramel and chocolate — cookie bears, to be exact, reports the Associated Press.
He was caught on tape at the store, prying open the door and snatching up some candy near the door. He ate his loot outside and then came back for round after round, until he’d been in the store seven times in 15 minutes. A car going by might have finally scared him away from his binge site.
With nary a wrapper in sight, the owner thinks the bear just ate those, too.
“He was very clean and very careful. He ate a lot of candy,” she said, adding that she’s not in favor of killing bears who end up in human areas. “We’re in their turf, and you just put up with these things when they happen,” she said.
