Going on a trip isn’t just about where you lay your head to rest at night, it’s about experiencing the location you’re visiting. And where there are tourists who want to get out and explore, there’s money to be made, which is why Airbnb is planning to offer add-on travel services to customers this year.
The homeshare company is trying out an add-on service that will let travelers book things like meals made by a personal chef, restaurant reservations, art gallery tours, and bike rentals, Bloomberg reports.
When you reserve a home rental or a room with Airbnb, you’ll have the option to book available services as well, people familiar with the plans told Bloomberg. Internally, the project has the fun name of “magical trips,” and the plan is for it to go live later this year.
“Our basic idea is: I want you to go to a city; you feel like you live there,” Chief Executive Officer Brian Chesky said in an interview on Bloomberg Television. “When people go to a place, they want much more than just a home. They want to be part of a neighborhood. And what we are really focused on doing is, how can we immerse you into a neighborhood?”
The company is remaining mum on the details, officially, but Chesky says the tests are going “really, really well” so far.
