Bank Repossesses Wrong House, Won’t Give Homeowner Back All The Stuff It Took
Having your house repossessed is surely an awful, terrible, no good, very bad feeling. Especially when it isn’t even the house that’s supposed to be foreclosed on, and then all your stuff is missing and the bank wont give it back. That’s what one woman Ohio woman is claiming happened, saying First National Bank foreclosed on her home, even though it isn’t her bank. She says not only was her home broken into, but some of her belongings were taken, sold, given away or thrown out.
She tells 10TV.com that the house the bank mucked up its information on which house it was supposed to repossess.
“They repossessed my house on accident, thinking it was the house across the street,” she said.
So how could a bank show up and take a house without the owner knowing it was happening? The woman was away from home for two weeks, and upon arriving back at her house, found she was locked out. She said she had to crawl through the window to get inside.
That’s when she noticed that most everything was gone from her home, apparently taken away by the company the bank hired to repossess her house. Which, again, was the wrong one.
“They told me that the GPS led them to my house,” she said. “My grass hadn’t been mowed and they just assumed.”
When she called the police to sort out the situation and get her things back, the chief told her the case was already closed.
She then presented the bank president with an estimate of $18,000 worth of property missing, she says he refused to pay up.
“He got very firm with me and said, ‘We’re not paying you retail here, that’s just the way it is,’” she says. “I did not tell them to come in my house and make me an offer. They took my stuff and I want it back.”
She says she’s angry now, as the bank isn’t apologizing and is instead, she claims, giving her attitude over breaking into her house and taking her things.
“They’re sarcastic when they talk to me. They make it sound like I’m trying to rip the bank off. All I want is my stuff back.”
The branch president told the news station it was trying to sort things out with the homeowner, but wouldn’t speak on camera. We also reached out to First National Bank for comment on this story and will update if we hear anything back.
