96-Year-Old Store Owner To Would-Be Robber: Take The Tootsie Rolls, Leave The Cash
There are some stories where it’s like… how do you even begin to express the awesomeness of the brave-hearted and all around fantastic nature of the person involved? To wit: A 96-year-old Wisconsin woman who has owned her grocery store for 50 years thwarted a would-be robber, telling him he could fill his pockets with candy but he darn well better leave her cash register alone.
It’s a short and sweet story from WKOW.com, but all it really needs is this key quote from our heroine, uttered when a masked man came into her store and demanded cash:
“I said, ‘I’m not opening up that cash register and that’s it. ‘I’m not opening it,’ ” she recalls. “I said, ‘You can have all the Tootsie Rolls you want but I am not opening that cash register.”
All the Tootsie Rolls you want. All the high fives we can offer over the Internet go to you, ma’am.
The man flashed the three-inch blade of his pocketknife at her, but she didn’t bend and instead, said she’d call the cops.
The would-be robber spotted a security camera and took off running with his knife — it’s unclear if he took the owner up on her Tootsie Roll offer. Police are still looking for him.
