How Do You Fly 1 Million Miles In A Year? Ask This Guy

So you say you want to fly a million miles in one year? Easy-peasy lemon squeezy! Just hop on about 400 flights to far-flung destinations and you can match the feat of a Chicago man who’s clocked in a million miles on United Airlines in just a single year. If you’re flying for business and have already racked up 13 million miles and earned tons of airline rewards, that’ll make things easier.

United Airlines says the man, an automotive sales consultant, is the airline’s most frequent flier and the first person to fly a million miles in a calendar year, reports the Chicago Tribune. He flew his millionth mile on a United flight between London and Chicago last week.

It seems like just another day in the sky for the man, who has flown more than 13 million miles and is one of the highest-mileage travelers in all of commercial aviation. The man says he’s probably flown more than 6,000 flights on United, including the 400 from  2012.

“It has been a phenomenal year flying with United,” he said in a United news release. “Everyone at the airline, from the customer service agents to the flight attendants to the ramp workers, has made my travels feel effortless.”

Considering his status, his travel probably did feel effortless — it’s not like he was sitting in a middle seat in the back of the plane in all likelihood. He’s been accumulating miles since 1983 when he joined United’s MileagePlus loyalty program, by flying to mostly Asia and Australia. And of course, he’s flown to all 50 U.S. states.

Meanwhile, I’m cranky that I have at least 10 flights to take in the coming year and no one who cares to mark that milestone.
