966-Calorie BK Burger Called "Height Of Irresponsibility" In UK
Health advocates in England, where every meal comes with a grayish sausage and a pint of warm beer, are up in arms about Burger King’s new Smoked Bacon & Cheddar Double Angus burger and its 966 calories, and 58g of fat. These people have apparently never looked at the BK menu here in the former colonies.
The sandwich, which includes two 6.4oz beef patties, bacon, cheddar cheese, steakhouse sauce, lettuce, tomato, onion and mayo, is being touted as coming from the devil himself by some folks.
“This horrendous burger is a graphic illustration of where the government’s obesity strategy has gone wrong,” a spokesperson for the National Obesity Forum claims. “This burger is the height of irresponsibility and, if left unfettered, the food industry will do nothing to help stem the current obesity epidemic.”
But here in the States, the Triple Whopper, which comes in at 1140 calories and 75g of fat,
makes the Smoked Bacon & Cheddar Double Angus look like diet food. Heck even the standard Double Whopper is only 66 calories short of the burger that is the target of such derision in the UK.
A rep for BK tells HuffPo, “Burger King is by no means the only fast food chain offering a high-calorie option. We do also have low-calorie options. This is meant to be a treat. McDonald’s has options with similar calorie counts on its menu.”
Indeed, the Golden Arches’ Angus Chipotle BBQ Bacon burger tallies up to 800 calories with 39g of fat. And that’s before you add a layer of french fries in the middle for texture.
