Restaurant Just Says No To Children Under 6
Less than a year after a North Carolina restaurant made headlines by saying it would eject “crying, screaming, whining” kids, a Pennsylvania eatery has gone one step further and banned anyone under the age of 6 from eating there.
The owner of McDain’s Restaurant in Monroeville, PA, recently sent out an e-mail to customers saying that, as of July 16, the establishment, “will no longer admit children under six years of age. We feel that McDain’s is not a place for young children. Their volume can’t be controlled and many, many times, they have disturbed other customers.”
Speaking to Pittsburgh’s WTAE-TV, the owner said that having loud kids with you at a restaurant is “the height of being impolite and selfish, and therefore, I instituted a policy.”
The owner said he won’t make exceptions with the new rule…. Nothing wrong with babies, but the fact is you can’t control their volume… There may be restaurants that prefer to cater to such things. Not here.”
On mother of a 13-month-old says she’s enjoyed eating at McDain’s previously but thinks the ban on little kids is hypocritical: “If they’re so concerned about noise, what do they plan to do about the loud people at the bar?”
