Long John Silver's, A&W Up For Sale
Yum! Brands, the fast food company so excitable it requires an exclamation point, is about to trim some fat from its lineup up eateries. The company has announced its intention to put its Long John Silver’s and A&W All-American Food chains on the market.
Yum says it wants to focus on its core group of restaurants: Taco Bell, KFC and Pizza Hut.
“We do not believe Long John Silver’s and A&W-All American Food restaurants fit into our long-term growth strategy,” said Yum’s CEO in a statement about the sale. “Accordingly, we have decided to put these two great brands up for sale and we will complete the sale only once the right buyer or buyers have been identified and we can ensure a seamless transition.”
In addition to the focusing on the three remaining brands, Yum also says it intends to continue its expansion overseas, especially in China. According to the company, 65% of the company’s profits now come from international sales, compared to only 22% from 12 years ago, when the company was spun-off from PepsiCo. By 2015, Yum says it expects a full 75% of its profits will be coming from outside the U.S.
There are currently a combined total of 1,630 Long John Silver’s and A&Ws, all of which are owned and operated by franchisees.
