Progressive Direct "Glitch" Hikes Premium From $800 to $2,000
Kevin received a surprise when he checked the renewal notice for his car insurance recently. A 260 percent surprise, in fact, even though he’s not a bad driver and hadn’t been in any accidents.
He writes:
I received an email notice of my policy renewal. Usually I just quickly glance at these, but this time I looked a little deeper. It turns out that Progressive was trying to quietly raise my 6 month premium from 781.90 to 2040.90.
I have a clean driving record, never been in an accident. Only 1 speeding ticket 3 years ago. When I called they said that premiums have gone up across the state of California and this was normal.
When I told them that I wanted to cancel my policy they came back and said that they had a “glitch” in the system and lowered my policy to $100 dollars more than before.
Just thought I’d give a heads up to people out there.
