Maine, By Proxy, Sues Blogger
Your tax dollars at work, trampling the First Amendment.
A blogger who criticized the Maine tourism office is facing lawsuit from a state contractor.
The Maine Web Report published a rough draft of a poster an advertising agency had mocked up to promote Maine Tourism. The fake phone number used in the poster, of which a composite is pictured at right, ended up being for a phone sex line. (mp3 recording here)
Now Warren Kremer Paino Advertising, LLC is suing the blogger, Lance Dutson, for over $1 million for defamation, libel, and copyright infringement.
Duston writes, “This state agency is wasting money, telling stories, and paying subcontractors who seem more focused on spending their time and money bludgeoning critics with legal threats and lawsuits rather than working to promote Maine tourism.”
