US Airways Downgrades Frequent Flyer Program

US Airways Downgrades Frequent Flyer Program

US Airways sent out an email this morning to frequent flyer members announcing that it was going to make it harder to earn frequent flyer miles. It used to be that no matter how far the trip was, you would earn at least 500 frequent flyer miles per leg. Now you will only earn the actual number of miles flown. “This pretty much kills anyone who makes US Air Shuttle Trips from NYC / Bos. / DC locations,” writes reader Mike. In addition, if you use your frequent flyer miles to schedule a ticket within 14 days of purchase, they will charge you a $50 fee. Full text of the announcement, inside…

U.S. Airways Strands Woman In Wheelchair On The Tarmac?

U.S. Airways Strands Woman In Wheelchair On The Tarmac?

This story has plenty of salaciousness and few details, but here we go: A woman is claiming that U.S. Airways employees helped her off of her flight from Bakersfield to Las Vegas, then left her parked in a wheelchair on the tarmac, causing her to miss her connection to Orlando. Eventually, another employee found the woman, wheeled her into a hallway and left. The woman’s daughter says that the employee told her mother, “this is not my job, but I can park you here.”

The obvious next evolution is that customers can opt to sit in a part of plane that doesn’t have hear the credit card offers, provided they pay a small additional fee.

US Airways Denied New Mexico Liquor License

US Airways Denied New Mexico Liquor License

Sorry alcoholics, US Airways is now banned from serving alcohol on all flights to and from New Mexico. The state Regulation and Licensing Department had already denied the airline a temporary liquor license in June after US Airways served alcohol to a passenger who later crashed his car, killing a family of five. The Licensing Department yesterday rejected the airline’s permanent application, claiming that it:

…cannot reasonably find that approval of application will protect the public health and safety or that it is in the public interest.

Missing Slip Of Paper Almost Stopped US Airways/America West Merger

We always appreciate the oddly forthcoming US Airways emails they’ve been sending to out to customers to keep them apprised of developments during their merger with America West. Turns out the merger almost didn’t happen:

…on September 26th we officially handed over the America West operating certificate to the FAA and formally merged into one airline. Yes, there really was a handover ceremony, and for a few weeks we couldn’t find the original America West certificate. Turns out it was in use as part of a company heritage display. No certificate, no merger. Wouldn’t that have been embarrassing?

Aw, that’s almost cute. Can’t find the operating certificate…passengers stranded on the tarmac for hours….anyone else seeing a correlation?
