Priced To Move: Cardboard Boxes Are About To Get Cheaper
The reason? Containerboard is the corrugated raw material used in cardboard boxes made by many companies including FedEx and Office Depot, reports Bloomberg News, and it’s getting cheaper.
Industry publication Pulp & Paper Week (because really, what else would it be called) estimated that containerboard prices will fall as much as $20 a ton from December levels. Kraft linerboard — cardboard used in containerboard, which is then used to make cardboard boxes — dropped in price for the first time since 2009, Bloomberg’s analysts noted.
And as prices fall for containerboard — and they’re predicted to keep falling — that should translate to cheaper cardboard-box prices, according to Deutsche Bank AG.
