Google Giving Away Free Stuff To New & Current Chromecast Users

These are the offers that we received via the Chromecast in the Consumerist Cave.

These are the offers that we received via the Chromecast in the Consumerist Cave.

In less than a year and a half, Google’s Chromecast has gone from nothing to being the #2 video streaming device sold to U.S. consumers, largely because of its $35 price tag. Now with Amazon — another newcomer into this market — rolling out its comparable $39 Fire TV stick, Google is throwing in freebies to new and current Chromecast users.

Gigaom reports that new Chromecast customers are eligible for $20 in Google Play credit, which can be used for renting/buying movies, books, games, and music. Costco customers get $25 in credits, plus three months of access to Sesame Street Go and two months of free workouts from Dailyburn.

Unlike most promos that leave current customers out in the cold, Google is throwing some bones in the direction of those that already have Chromecasts.

Figuring out which offers you’re eligible for is a little tricky, as you must (A) be using Chrome, (B) must have the Google Cast extension on your browser, and (C) must be on the same network as your Chromecast. If you’ve got all that going right now and your Chromecast is on, click this link and follow the instructions to find out which offers you can get.

We’ve got a Chromecast (along with too many other streaming devices) here in the Consumerist Cave and we got the following offers — a free copy of the first X-Men movie; three free months of DramaFever; two months of HuluPlus; 90 days of unlimited streaming access to Google Play music.
