It’s nothing new for an All-Pro NFL player to end up selling cars, but usually that transition from gridiron glory to local businessman happens after the player has retired. Most 23-year-old football superstars are only thinking about buying cars at this point in their careers. Of course, most players don’t find themselves with a full season to kill while serving a suspension from the league.

Josh Gordon of the Cleveland Browns was recently hit with a year-long suspension for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy following a DUI arrest in July. But rather than go back home to Texas and watch Browns games on TV while sulking, it looks like he’s staying in Ohio to put in some time shilling for a local car dealership.

Earlier today, ESPN’s Josina Anderson reported that while the Browns will be in Pittsburgh this weekend taking on the Steelers, Gordon will be starting his new gig as the goodwill ambassador for the operators of an auto dealer group in Randolph, OH, outside of Akron.

According to Anderson, the Pro-Bowler who led the league in receiving yards last season will be working the sales floor, in addition to being the face of the auto group’s local community efforts.

While we hope the new job helps keep Gordon the right path, we’re also concerned he might become so enamored with the life of a salesman that he ditches the NFL for good.
