It’s unclear how exactly the app came to the surface prematurely, but it was available for a few hours in the App store yesterday. It sounds basically like Snapchat — an app that lets people send photos and video messages that disappear after they’re viewed.
One big difference from Snapchat? It’s more of a give and receive situation — you can’t see a Slingshot message from a friend until you send your own. Tit for tat, and all that.
But it’s not ready yet, explains Facebook of yesterday’s misfire.
“Earlier today, we accidentally released a version of Slingshot, a new app we’re working on,” a Facebook spokesperson told Mashable. “With Slingshot, you’ll be able to share everyday moments with lots of people at once. It’ll be ready soon and we’re excited for you to try it out.”
