Someone Please Explain Why We Don’t Have Stores Here With Champagne Vending Machines
All the vending machines I’ve encountered in these United States are boring — the usual soda, bottled water, candy, gum or at airports, iPods and ear buds. Yawn. Boring. Not one of our vending machines (that I know of) dispenses the bubbly stuff. Yeah, you read that right. There’s a vending machine in the U.K. that delivers Moët & Chandon Champagne.
See?
The thing I’m having a hard time with is the fact that we don’t have these, here, where I am always willing to tipple a bit of the sparkly stuff but as of yet, have not encountered such an easy means of doing so.
For those inclined to sip the fancy wine, it’s easy enough to walk up to the Selfridges department store on London’s Oxford street. Each 200ml bottle costs £17.99 or about $29 U.S. dollars.
Once the golden arm delicately lifts its cargo and delivers it to your eager hands, you’ll see that the bottles are wrapped in gold and covered in 350 art-deco inspired Swarovski crystals.
It’s unclear whether this is just a seasonal thing, as it’s part of the store’s “Destination Christmas” area, but what is clear is that this is not within four miles of me. Which is about the max I’ll go for something.
The company touted this new installation earlier this month on Twitter but this seems to be the time for everyone to get excited/jealous about it (H/T to GrubStreet). ‘Tis the season, and all that.
