Suspected Gunman In Custody After Shots Reported At Los Angeles Airport
Police have a suspected gunman in custody at Los Angeles International Airport after a shooting there this morning that reportedly wounded multiple people and has disrupted flights across the nation. Some flights are still being allowed to depart, but it seems no LAX-bound planes will be landing there for now.
A Transportation Security Administration worker may have been shot, reports CNN: That outlet cites a source on the scene who said the shooter walked to a security checkpoint around 9:30 a.m. PT and pulled out a concealed assault rifle and shot the TSA agent before going through the checkpoint. It’s unclear on what the agent’s condition is.
The Associated Press (video will autoplay) reports that gunshots were reported at Terminal 3, which is home to Virgin America, AirTran, JetBlue and other airlines.
A police officer told the AP that the condition of those injured is unknown, and that the suspect exchanged fire with the police. One witness said he heard “about a dozen gunshots” from the security area in the terminal that had been evacuated.
Airport security staff reportedly evacuated all the terminals and corralled people onto the tarmacs to wait outside airplanes while the authorities investigated.
