For any fan of Star Wars, it would be hard, nay — impossible — to contain the squeals of glee one’s mouth would emit upon meeting any of the franchise’s most important cast members (Jar Jar Binks, we are definitely not talking to you). But it seems the Transportation Security Administration either don’t know the man who filled Chewbacca’s furry shoes or aren’t willing to give Peter Mayhew special treatment. He was stopped while boarding a flight on account of his cane, which, of course, is shaped like a lightsaber.
When a guy’s more than seven feet tall, he needs a cane that also measures up. “Giant man need giant cane,” Mayhew tweeted, as well as posting photos of a TSA agent showing the replica weapon, reports the Associated Press.
The cane was eventually cleared for flight, and the TSA insists it wasn’t due to undue pressure from fans of the beloved Wookie.
“Because of the unusual weight of the passenger’s cane, a security officer alerted a supervisor. Less than five minutes later the passenger and cane were cleared to travel. Social media played no role in the determination,” the TSA said in a brief statement this past weekend.
We’ve gotta wonder where Chewie got that lightsaber because it’s not exactly his weapon of choice. Maybe it was on loan from Luke Skywalker? In any case, rrrrrrrrrrrrrghghghgh!
