Lululemon Supplier Claims It Made Those See-Through Yoga Pants Exactly To Specifications
Yesterday the fitness world was shocked, simply shocked when high-end exercise clothing company Lululemon Athletica recalled a big batch of black yoga pants for being sheer enough to be see-through. The company blamed one of its suppliers for the Luon fabric snafu, but that company is all like, “Nuh uh. We did just what you said.”
The Taiwanese supplier is one of only a few Lululemon uses to make its highly coveted, buzzed about clothing. And although Lululemon pointed the finger at its supplier, the textile company responded with what we can only imagine was a sniff.
“All shipments to Lululemon went through a certification process which Lululemon had approved,” the company CEO said in an interview, according to the Wall Street Journal. “All the pants were manufactured according to the requirements set out in the contract with Lululemon.”
The black Luon pants problem follows a bunch of complaints about tops that bled colors last year. It’s not a great look for Lululemon to have such issues, as it already has come under fire for perhaps not being up to snuff with the quality control at companies it uses as suppliers.
Lululemon’s image works around the low supply, high buzz environment its CEO has cultivated. The idea being, if a product is scarce, customers will pay top dollar for it when, and if, they can get it.
So if the supplier of see-through pants really did make the fabric to specifications, does that mean Lululemon wants ladies to waltz around in sheer bottoms? The men I know would say, “Who cares? Keep wearing’em!” while the women who wear them will no doubt be holding them up to the light, just to be sure.
