One Million Moms Doesn't Like JCPenney Showing Happy, Married Lesbian Couple In Catalog
One Million Moms is back on JCPenney’s case again, after the company failed to fire openly gay spokeswoman Ellen DeGeneres. The problem for OMM this time? A happy couple in the May catalog made up of two women. Shock, gasp, etc.
In a press release posted on the OMM web site (via Jezebel), the group decries JCPenney’s recent failure to remain “neutral in the culture war,” as they had been lying low in April. But lo and behold, two married women appearing with their kids must mean the end of said neutrality.
On pages ten and eleven, under the title “Freedom of Expression,” you’ll find “Wendi and her partner Maggie and daughters” and again “Wendi, daughters Raven and Clover, and partner Maggie” in text. In the picture both women are wearing wedding bands.
OMM says it’s had so much on the agenda this year, which was why it moved on from fighting JCPenney before, but this kind of outrage has prompted it to speak up again.
The group urges its members to take action and speak to local managers, and ask, “What was the purpose in stating on page eleven that Wendi and Maggie are partners?”
If JCPenney’s earlier responses to OMM are any indication, we think it’ll stand behind Wendi and Maggie’s appearance and evidently happy relationship.
