Every Monday Is Cyber Monday This Holiday Season
According to the ancient tradition, the Monday immediately following Thanksgiving has been known as Cyber Monday, that day when we all pretend to be working but are really sifting through countless websites looking for bargains. But that long-held tradition is now being repeated every first day of the work week this holiday season.
According to the number-crunchers at comScore, online sales have not only increased over last year, each Monday since Cyber Monday has seen more than $1 billion go to e-tailers, making them the three biggest online shopping days of the year (so far).
On Cyber Monday proper, comScore figures a record $1.25 billion in stuff was bought online this year. The next Monday that number was at $1.17 billion and just a couple days ago, online stores took in $1.13 billion, a 19% jump from the same Monday last year.
ComScore says that online shoppers have spent $26.8 billion since Nov. 1, up 15% from the same period of time in 2010.
Meanwhile, industry prognosticators are crystal-balling only a 2-3% increase in all holiday sales this holiday season.
