Uno's Military Discount Available To All Veterans, Not Just Retirees

Uno Chicago Grill, the chain that has brought the deliciousness of deep-dish pizza to suburban wastelands everywhere, is honoring veterans next week. That’s excellent. But their publicity for the event gets some terminology wrong. Despite what a current press release says, the 19.43% discount doesn’t just apply to active-duty personnel and those who spent decades in the military and retired with a pension. It’s for everyone who has served.

Reader and veteran RandomHookup noticed the discrepancy, and offers this PSA for pizza lovers who have served:

Uno’s wants to do a nice thing for veterans by offering a 19.43% discount (based on year they were founded) on meals from 11/7 to 11/11. But, they issued a press release that just confused the offer.

They said in the presser “As part of a long-standing tradition of giving back and saying “thanks” to all U.S. military men and women.” Great, but then in the same press release they say “The discount is available to all active and retired military personnel at Uno’s nationwide. “

I realize most people haven’t served in the military, but those statements are contradictory. “Retired military” served long enough to get a pension. Most veterans aren’t retired…we are simply veterans.

I did confirm with Uno’s that they really mean “all veterans”, but I hope that the word gets out to those who might not take advantage of the discount because they aren’t “retired”.
