It’s been reported for quite some time that Xbox 360 users would eventually get access to more streaming video options. Earlier today, Microsoft announced that it has partnered with a number of content providers to bring content from HBO, SyFy and even more for Comcast and Verizon FiOS subscribers.

“Today’s announcement is a major step toward realizing our vision to bring you all the entertainment you want, shared with the people you care about, made easy,” said Don Mattrick, president of the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft. “Combining the world’s leading TV and entertainment providers with the power of Kinect for Xbox 360* and the intelligence of Bing voice search will make TV and entertainment more personal, social and effortless.”

Though details are still vague, it looks like Comcast and FiOS subscribers (i.e., people who use those services for both cable and internet access) will get access to the on-demand and streaming services those companies already offer for viewing on PCs and smartphones. And of course, a Xbox Live Gold subscription will be needed.

The new offerings are expected to roll out his holiday season.
