Exxon Mobil Pipeline Leaks Into Yellowstone River
Ah, nature. Chirping birds, fresh air and oil gushing into rivers. Credit the latter to a leaking pipeline operated by Exxon Mobil. The company says as many as 1,000 barrels of crude have leaked into Montana’s Yellowstone River, leaving its mark as far as 10 miles away from the pipeline.
Reuters reports Montana’s governor, who is worried the leak will damage the state’s fishing and farming industry, questions the company’s range estimate of the leak, dismissing it as a conservative guess. Exxon says it’s examining the area to get a more precise idea of how far the oil has spread.
Exxon said it discovered the leak Saturday and has shut down the pipeline.
