Google Ordered To Pay Computer Firm $5 Million For Patent Violation
A small Texas computer company won a $5 million district court judgment against Google, which a jury found in violation of a Linux-related patent due to proprietary code for storing and retrieving information that was found in Google software.
FOSS Patents describes the case in all its extremely complicated glory, concluding the judgment will have implications for Google’s Linux-based Android platform. The company’s lawsuit also names Yahoo!, MySpace, Amazon.com, PayPal, Match.com, AOL, among other heavy hitters, as patent violators. Google was the first to face a judgment.
