Verizon Looking To Introduce Tiered iPhone Pricing Plans In Mid-Summer
When Verizon released its version of the iPhone last month, it said the unlimited data plan required to use the phone would eventually give way to tiered pricing though the company refused to put a timeline on it. Now, Verizon is being slightly more specific about its plans.
When asked earlier today about the eventual shift to tiered pricing plans, Verizon’s CFO Fran Shammo told investors, “We will probably do that in the mid-summer time frame.”
From Reuters:
Shammo also appeared to hint that Verizon Wireless would add another iPhone to its product line-up later this year when he was asked about how iPhone would affect profit margins.
What remains to be seen is whether or not the option for an unlimited data plan will remain after the usage-based plans are announced.
Before the release of the Verizon iPhone, our cohorts at Consumer Reports reviewed the available info for iPhone users and found that only about 4% of them use more than 1GB of data per month, which means that, unless Verizon iPhone customers use their devices differently than AT&T subscribers, many will likely save money with tiered plans.
