Redbox Confirms Plans To Take On Netflix In Streaming Biz

Redbox wants to be the new Netflix, and the company is stepping into the realm of video streaming.

The Los Angeles Times reports the Coinstar-owned company will offer a subscription-based service that lets customers stream films on various devices and rent discs from kiosks. Redbox has not yet announced its partner that will provide the streaming.

Redbox may have some company, with Amazon rumored to be launching a similar model sometime in the very near future.

Hulu Plus, which is also in the subscription streaming game, seems to have had trouble catching a foothold due to limited content. What would Redbox or Amazon need to offer to get you to stray from Netflix?
