UPDATE: TSA Says Pilots Can Skip Scanners & Pat-Downs
Earlier today, TSA chief John Pistole hinted on Good Morning America that airline pilots might soon be able to skirt the agency’s stricter screening procedures. Now one of the unions that had recently told pilots to refuse being scanned says a deal has actually been reached.
According to the Allied Pilots Association, which reps the pilots for American Airlines, if a pilot is traveling in uniform on airline business, they will only be required to show two forms of photo ID — their company ID and a government-issued ID — which will be checked against the flight crew database.
“This looks good. It’s basically what we’ve been after for 10 years,” says a rep for the union. “Pilots are not the threat here; we’re the target.”
