JetBlue Passengers Try Out The Emergency Slide After Plane's Tires Catch Fire During Landing
The passengers on board a flight from Long Beach, CA, to Sacramento got to live out their irate JetBlue flight attendant fantasies yesterday by taking a ride down a jet’s emergency exit slide. But it probably wasn’t as fun as one might expect since the plane’s tires had just caught fire while making a hard landing.
The plane landed shortly before 1 p.m. PT yesterday, but not until after four tires blew out while landing.
Sacramento County Airport System Aircraft Rescue Firefighters extinguished the fires while Sacramento firefighters tended to the passengers. According to reports, 15 people on board the plane received minor injuries and five were taken to the hospital.
One passenger on the plane told the Associated Press she believed some of the injuries were incurred not from the hard landing, but from the slide. “They’re incredibly fast, and there was no time for the flight attendants to give us any instructions,” explained the traveler.
