Holiday Inn Will Pay Your Baggage Fees If You Stay With Them

In an attempt to alleviate the annoyance of checked baggage fees, all while drumming up some business, Holiday Inn — along with other IHG-brand hotels — will pay up to $50 of your fees if you book a weekend stay with your Visa card.

To take advantage of the deal, you’ll need to be traveling between Sept. 1 and Dec. 30 and use a Visa card to book at least two weekend nights at any of the following: Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Hotel Indigo, Holiday Inn Club Vacations, Staybridge Suites and Candlewood Suites hotels.

The deal claims to be applicable to fees for all airlines.

In order to get reimbursed for your baggage fees, you’ll need: Your hotel bill showing Visa payment method and travel dates, along with your receipt for checked airline baggage fees and travel dates. If you booked the room through a non-IHG third party, you’ll also need that receipt to show that you paid with Visa and to confirm the dates of the stay.

Procrastinators take note: The reimbursement forms must be postmarked by Jan. 31, 2011.

Up to $850 in luggage fees for a 2-weekend night stay? At a HI?

No, don’t see any possible problem with that at all…

    • DariusC says:

They just increase the price per night and pay for the people that use the offer. Of couse you keep in mind that it is the weekend… costs more per night anyways… And I would assume if you are staying for 2 weekends, you are staying for 2 full weeks as well.

      • Sparkstalker says:

Weekends don’t always cost more…it depends on where you’re visiting. For vacation spots, yeah, but for business areas, weekends are usually dead…

      • nybiker says:

It’s actually for any 2 consecutive nights of a given weekend.

    • humphrmi says:

$850 is a typo. Read the linked page.

      • YouDidWhatNow? says:

Ah, well that makes more sense.

But in all reality, $50 is a reasonable portion of a typical HI night’s stay is it not? Seems like not a great deal for HI unless you’re staying for like a week.

I have to say, this is some VERY clever marketing.

  3. North Antara says:

    $850 != $50

UP TO – let me say it again….. UP TO

I see this going as well as KFC’s chicken giveaway.

    Reimbursement? When hell freezes over…

  6. nybiker says:

According to the IHG site, “We’ll reimburse you for your checked airline bag with an IHG Visa Prepaid Card (up to $50). Book today! “
But I think North Antara is making the same point.

  7. SkokieGuy says:

It would be an awesome deal if true. You’d make money, since you can book rooms at under $100.00 a night, so weekend stay = $300, you could make money but claiming the baggage credit.

Except it’s only $50.00. From link in post:

Only one bag per hotel stay combined with one round-trip baggage fee from corresponding flight will result in a reward being awarded per weekend stay. The number of qualified rewards awarded are unlimited during the promotional period. Baggage fees will be reimbursed based on the airline baggage fees of air carriers for one normal checked bag that is not overweight and not oversize under the carrier’s rules roundtrip up to a maximum of $50 for one bag and one passenger.

Quick note for budget travelers – this does not include opaque bookings (those where you don’t know the hotel until after you purchase – Hotwire, Priceline, etc.)

I’m staying at one in San Diego this weekend. I picked it because of its proximity to Petco Park, but this article makes me happy about my choice.

I was actually waiting for the terms and conditions to be either so onerous or so restrictive that this deal wasn’t worth it. I was pleasantly surprised.

  12. HogwartsProfessor says:

This would be great if you were going for the weekend and only checked one bag.
