Late Wednesday night in a Kansas City 7-11, employee Gurpreet Singh was shot by a robber, even after he handed over the cash without protest. And now a relative of Sing wants the convenience store chain to install safety glass in all their stores before another employee dies.

In an e-mail to Consumerist, Singh’s family member writes:

This could have been prevented if 7-11, which owns 51% of every store they operate, had installed the safety glass/bullet proof glass.

I would like to see what can be done in this matter and for the future. I want something good to come out of this so future lives can be saved.

Since so many robberies and deaths happen in their convenience stores, has 7-11 done something or are they just sitting on the profit?

Police in Kansas City have reviewed the security camera footage of the event and say that Singh did everything by the book during the robbery.

“He didn’t put up a struggle at all,” one detective told reporters. “He did what he was supposed to do and got shot for it.”

In a sad footnote, Wednesday was supposed to be Singh’s final night working at 7-11. He was leaving the job to start a new position at a local hospital.

Police are still looking for the suspect in the robbery/murder.
