A Lowe’s worker says that at least at his store they’re marking down all open-box appliances 50% to try to get rid of them before the end of their fiscal year. This type of stuff varies by store, so your best bet is to grab a manager and see if they’re willing to bargain.

    You mean… by September 30th?

Our Lowes had lots of open box appliances on clearance but they were not marked down much.

Former Lowe’s appliance pusher here. Don’t get too excited, this stuff is decided store by store, and some managers are more willing to haggle than others. Useless tip.

@amelie317: You’re right. My local Lowe’s always has a section with open box items. Sometimes there’s a lot, sometimes nothing. I got a $650 dishwasher there for $399 a couple years ago.

Some of ours went down about 75% off at one point in time. Many times it will depend on the store manager, and how much they like to be in control of margins. They seriously can screw the store margin for a weekend. That being said. It really depends on the store and store manager, don’t get mad if an employee doesn’t or can’t haggle with you cause we have numbers to meet and people will come by and buy appliances at half off rather than 90% off
