The International Council of Shopping Centers said same-store sales, or sales at stores open at least a year during the November-December period, appear to be coming in just below meager projections, though it said post-Christmas buying could help restore the shortfall.
The AP is reporting that Blockbuster will be closing 282 stores nationwide and will beef up spending on its online DVD rental service in order to compete with industry-leader Netflix. From the AP:
“Traffic is just not what it used to be when Blockbuster was the big rooster in the hen house,” said Andy Cross, senior analyst with The Motley Fool.
Winter is ending and it’s the season to stock up on seasonal items that stores need to get rid of: Winter coats, seasonal candy, skis, snowboards, mittens, hats, boots, big inflatable heart-shaped lawn ornaments, you name it. Look for free shipping online and hit your local drug store for the candy.
Come Monday, Circuit City will close seven U.S. stores, which can only mean one thing: clearance sale on Wednesday.
