Football Fans Have Direct Access To Super Bowl Tickets For The First Time; Prices Start At $5,500

We’re still months away from finding out which two teams will battle it out for the national championship in January, but dedicated football fans can already purchase tickets to the Super Bowl — straight from the National Football League for the first time.

The league opened up sales today through a Ticketmaster-run site, offering ticket packages for the big game on Feb. 5 in Houston. Prices start at $5,500 and range up to $12,000. Packages include things like the power to choose your own seat, attend pre- and post-game parties, and with some packages, get on-field access when the game is over. All told, there will be 9,500 tickets up for sale, Bloomberg reports.

“Now you have certainty that what you’re buying is what you’re getting, right down to the seat location,” said John Collins, chief executive officer of On Location Experiences, which is putting together the packages for the NFL.

Previously, tickets were distributed by the NFL and its 32 teams. For example, last season the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers were allotted 35% of the tickets between them; host San Francisco 49ers received 5%; the other 29 teams got 1.2% each; and the NFL claimed 25% for itself.
