Tesla CEO Elon Musk Teases “Top Secret Masterplan” Image courtesy of Atwater Village Newbie
Over the years, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has attempted to drum up excitement for the company’s new endeavors by teasing them on social media, promising to soon unveil something “major,” like last summer’s worst kept secret: that the company would begin making solar-based batteries for homes and businesses. Well, the hype-loving CEO — who could use a boost after the last couple of weeks [link to an autopilot story]– is at it again, teasing a “top secret masterplan.”
Musk Tweeted on Sunday that he plans to make a major announcement at some point this week.
Of course, Musk’s message didn’t contain details about the top-secret project. However, the Associated Press notes that the company’s last “masterplan” happened to be the unveiling of the plans for the Model S and Model 3 vehicles nearly 10 years ago.
The last time Musk teased a “major” announcement it involved the company’s move into the solar storage market with two distinct battery products: the Powerwall home battery and the business system Powerpack.
While Musk tried to subtly (and not so subtly) hint that that announcement didn’t involve a new car, he hasn’t done so with the new Tweet just yet.
However, with the company only recently starting to accept orders for the Model 3, it’s not likely the masterplan will focus on a new electric car.
But it could involve the company spreading its wings: perhaps the secret plan involves that self-driving bus-type vehicle the manufacturer has reportedly been working on.
