Uber Adding Pandora Integration For Drivers; Offers Six Months Of Ad-Free Service
Uber drivers looking to jam out with their riders now have another option. On top of allowing passengers to use Spotify on their journey, Uber has added Pandora integration to its drivers’ app, and will offer drivers six months of ad-free service at no cost.
Uber announced the partnership with Pandora on Monday, noting that the new app feature will provide drivers with “seamless, personalized” music throughout their day.
Unlike Uber’s other music partnership with Spotify — which will continue to operate — the Pandora option, currently available in the United States, Australia, and New Zealand, is handled solely by the driver.
The Spotify initiative allows riders to use their Uber app to pick songs or playlists to listen to on their rides. However, TechCrunch points out that the option was a bit difficult to use, with some drivers having struggled to get the service to work through their phone jacks.
To use the new Pandora option, drivers connect their phone to their vehicle’s Bluetooth or AUX, open their Uber app, tap the “play music” button on the map, log in to Pandora, and select their station.
While the music will continue to play during the ride, Uber says the sound will be lowered when a notice comes through on the ride app.
Uber said on Monday that it will foot the bill for the first six months of a drivers’ Pandora service — while supplies last. After that, it’s up to the driver to pay for the music.
Additionally, TechCrunch reports that Uber plans to offer drivers free AUX cords so they can more easily access the Pandora streaming service.
