Ashley Furniture Franchisee To Hand Out $1.5M In Refunds After Ohio State Win
Ohio State surprised a lot of people last night by blowing out the University of Oregon 42-20 in the NCAA football championship game, but while many people in the Buckeye State were overjoyed by the resounding win, one furniture company was probably hoping that the game would have been closer.
ABC News reports that Ohio-based Morris Furniture Company is now on the hook for upwards of $1.5 million in refunds to customers following a promotion at the 15 Morris-owned Ashley Furniture HomeStore and Better Sleep Shops in Ohio and Kentucky.
The promo promised refunds to customers who purchased at least $1,999 in furniture at these stores between Dec. 17 and Jan. 1 if OSU won the championship game by at least seven points. Customers also have the option of accepting a store gift card worth 110% of their original purchase.
In all, the promo could carry a price tag of around $1.5 million. But Morris isn’t solely responsible for the loss; it had an underwriter who will take the brunt of the loss.
“We did work with a third-party company that underwrote the promotion. So we’re excited to see a win,” a company exec tells ABC.
However, Morris isn’t getting away scot free.
“It’s not inexpensive to have this kind of promotion,” admits the exec.
If you’re one of the lucky shoppers who scored this refund, you’ll have to fill out a form in the store to get your winnings after Feb. 1.
