Hermès Customers Returning $20,000 Birkin Bags For Smelling Like Weed
When you’re paying $20,000 for a purse, it should be basically perfect, if not possess some kind of supernatural ability to lay golden eggs or something. That’s why some disgruntled Hermès customers are reportedly returning their pricy Birkin bags, claiming that the purses smell like stanky, skunky marijuana.
The exclusive bags, that go for at least 20,000 bucks, are coming back to boutiques because customers claim they smell skunky and like marijuana in some cases, reports Page Six, citing insiders.
The luxury company reportedly claims that stink is due to a “badly tanned” batch of a supplier’s leather, which somehow translates to smelling like the stash of green stuff you found in your brother’s shoe buried at the bottom of his closet.
When the leather heats up in warm temperatures like sunlight or toasting in a hot car, the skunk stink is released from the leather, a source says.
‘“Owners are returning the Hermès bags back to boutiques across the US, including the Madison Avenue store, saying they smell of skunk. The bags are being sent back to Paris as nobody knows quite how to deal with this embarrassing situation.”’
It’s reportedly happening anywhere the bags are sold and in bags of varying colors, but doesn’t affect other Hermès leather products or in the crocodile skin bags that sell for more than $60,000 in some cases.
Customers say staff from the company are sending the bags back to Paris to have the weed panels removed and rebuild them entirely.
