1-800-Flowers Will Shell Out $143M To Buy Harry & David
Love is in the air, and in this case the couple-to-be has plenty of gift options to choose from to celebrate the occasion — 1-800-Flowers.com Inc. says it’ll be buying Harry & David for $143 million in cash, in an effort to take on the gift-giving world and fill it with its wares.
The flower company says the union will result in a company with more than $1 billion in annual sales, reports the Wall Street Journal, which will include anything from flowers to fruit, gourmet snacks and candy and other gifts.
Included in the deal are all of Harry & David’s brands including Wolferman’s and Cushman’s and their websites, its 47 U.S. retail stores and the company’s headquarters, manufacturing-and-distribution facilities and orchards in Oregon, as well as a warehouse-and-distribution facility in Ohio.
Harry & David will get to bring its senior management team along as it’s folded completely into 1-800-Flowers.com as the sole owner.
The marriage “further extends our position as the leading destination for all of our customers’ celebratory and gifting occasions, and significantly enhances our gift offering in the growing gourmet food and gift baskets space,” said Jim McCann, chief executive of 1-800-Flowers.com.
We’ll no doubt see you both in the Garden of Discontent.
