Oh, those troublesome third-party vendors: In yet another example of why it’s smart to keep the corporate eye on what products you’re shilling, Walmart, Sears, Amazon and other retailers have quickly moved to pull a poster that features a sign from Nazi Germany’s Dachau concentration camp. Yes, that was really for sale.

The phrase on the gate in the photo reads “Arbeit macht frei,” which translates to “work makes you free,” and was pictured on a “home decoration” poster for sale online.

Walmart apologized for the mistake, saying in a statement (via Digiday.com, which first reported the poster) that the poster was sold by a third-party seller on its site:

“We were horrified to see that this item was on our site. We sincerely apologize, and worked quickly to remove it. The item was sold through a third-party seller on our marketplace. We have shared our disappointment with them and have learned they are removing the publisher of this item entirely from inventory.”

Sears also removed the poster, which came with a description calling it a “generic Gate with inscription Arbeit Macht Frei, Dachau Concentration Camp, Dachau, Upper Bavaria, Bavaria, Germany Poster Print by Pa.”

“The item, which was listed by an independent third-party on Sears Marketplace, violates our guidelines and was immediately removed,” Sears said in a statement.

Amazon hasn’t issued a public statement yet, but it also removed the item.
