The very public battle between CBS and Dish Network over the satellite company’s ad-skipping Hopper DVR service continues, with Dish claiming that actress Kaley Cuoco — better known as the real reason many guys watch Big Bang Theory — was compelled by her network to remove a Tweet about the Hopper.
According the screengrab to the left, being circulated by Dish, the actress Tweeted her feelings about the newest version of the Hopper, which lets users access their recorded shows over the Internet, on Wednesday morning. It is no longer anywhere to be found on her Twitter feed.
Dish is blaming the disappearance of the Tweet on CBS, which airs Cuoco’s popular sitcom. The company recently told the editors of CBS-owned CNET that they could not review the Hopper or give it a Best of Show award at the Consumer Electronics Show because the network is one of many broadcasters suing Dish over the device.
“It’s disappointing that CBS – once the exemplar of editorial independence and innovation – continues to use its heavy hand to hold back progress from consumers,” said Joe Clayton, DISH president and CEO, in a statement. “It’s a shame that CBS, despite its legacy, feels it needs to thwart this kind of consumer demand.”
CBS responded in a statement to AdWeek, saying, “Once again, Joe Clayton demonstrates his dubious gift for hyperbole and hucksterism. No demands were made, but it’s clear that Dish’s culture of fabrication is alive and well.”
