If The Olympics Ban Photo & Video Sharing, How Will All Your Friends Know What An Awesome Time You Had?
So you managed to score tickets to see some exciting events at the Olympics, hurray! Too bad, then, that your pals won’t be able to see photographic or video evidence of the great time you’ll be having, as the Olympics is reportedly banning photo and video sharing on social networks.
Amateur Photographer in the U.K. says it’s investigating whether the Olympics organizing committee, Logoc, is planning a ban on social networks like Twitter and Facebook, although the terms and conditions of entry for ticket holders seem to suggest that’s already the case.
Images, video and sound recordings of the Games taken by a Ticket Holder cannot be used for any purpose other than for private and domestic purposes and a Ticket Holder may not license, broadcast or publish video and/or sound recordings, including on social networking websites and the internet more generally, and may not exploit images, video and/or sound recordings for commercial purposes under any circumstances, whether on the internet or otherwise, or make them available to third parties for commercial purposes.
Just how the rules will be enforced with masses of people clicking away on their phones is another matter, as the photographer who called attention to the ban notes.
“The sheer notion of trying to ban any form of photography, other than for viewing at home, is nonsensical – it beggars belief.”
Logoc has yet to respond to Amateur Photographer’s request for comment.
*Thanks for the tip, Marc!
